Nestled in the heart of a verdant Californian forest with views of an undulating landscape, our beautiful Butterfly Ranch is a one-of-a-kind destination – the only getaway retreat that will be built by twins, for twins.
Butterfly Ranch sits perched atop a mountain overlooking a valley and three impressive hills, blanketed in thick, natural forest. Like a wilderness cathedral, this tranquil retreat currently accommodates up to eight people, sharing four cosy rooms. Here, our guests can finally exhale, the cares of their world lifted from their shoulders.

No single place on earth is dedicated solely to the twin loss community – we have a vision to change that.
At Butterfly Ranch, we dream of welcoming twins from around the world, to honor those who have lost their twin and celebrate those who are still together, in life.
Working side-by-side and breaking bread together
We have a special vision for Butterfly Ranch – that it be constructed entirely by twins. That’s why our visitors do not pay for room and board, but rather put in the labour and skills necessary to transform our secluded paradise into a sanctuary for healing and togetherness.
It’s a simple trade: for each night stayed at Butterfly Ranch, guests will put two hours of work into the construction or maintenance of the property. In exchange, we provide comfy accommodations and delicious homestyle meals shared together in the ranch dining room.
By building side-by-side, we acknowledge the pain of losing a twin, while providing the means to collectively shift our focus to creating something meaningful, something for the greater good.
And, oh, there is so much to do!
Over and above Butterfly Ranch refurbishments and maintenance, as well as landscaping and building roads and trails, we’ll be expanding our space to offer more unique getaway experiences.
Hobbit Hill
Yes! We’re planning to build two hobbit homes into one of our three iconic hills. These will accommodate two guests each, providing a delightful retreat destination for nature lovers seeking restoration.
Fairy Cottages
Tucked away into the lush foliage atop the second of our three hills, we’re planning two enchanting one-bedroom fairy cottages. Here, guests may enjoy the utter serenity of our woodland, for an uninterrupted escape.
Treehouses
On our third hill, raised into the forest, we’re excited to erect two expansive treehouses. Our guests will enjoy the mental space to rise above their worries and appreciate the undemanding company of a treetop wilderness.
Yurts
We’re excited to build two exotic yurts, which will entice our twin guests to embark on the adventure of camping with all the modern comforts of glamping. Spaced apart, each Yurt will enjoy the utmost privacy and respect.

None of this is possible without your support. If you’re a twin, we invite you to get involved – whatever your skills might be. We’re in need of civil engineers, plumbers, carpenters, interior decorators, builders, landscapers… and those who are simply willing to arrive with a pair of willing hands.

We are using 2024 to plan our projects, get the required permits from our county, and line up professional project managers.
There will be no Twin Work Weekends during 2024.
